All star battery line up for this year’s Okanagan Softball Camp
All Star Battery Coaching Line Up
OSC is excited to announce an all star battery line up for this year’s camp. Former Canadian Olympic Team Head Coach Ron Clarke and former Junior National and Team BC player Tanya McLean are heading up this year’s pitching and catching team. We do not hesitate to say that this may be the best pitching and catching combination of any camp! This dynamic duo will be offering first class instruction, world class experience and a true passion for the game.
Ron is presently working for the White Rock Renegades Organization and has led countless teams to National Championships. He has many championships to his credit and was the Head Coach of the Senior Women’s Canadian National Team at the 2000 Olympic Games held in Sydney, Austrialia; He also coached the Women’s team at the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg in 1999; and was the Head Coach at the World Championship in Japan in 1997. He also was the former Head Coach of the Canadian Men’s National Softball teams and has over 20 years as a National Team coach and has 15 years coaching experience with female softball athletes. Ron also conducts coach’s clinics and is a level 3 certified NCCP coach.
Tanya McLean is currently assistant coaching with the UBC Thunderbirds and has been a part of their team for the last 5 years. Tanya played minor ball with the Delta Heat association and attended several National Championships, highlighted by being awarded Top Batter and All-Star Catcher in 2003. More recently played in the senior division with the White Rock Renegades and won gold at the National Championships in Quebec in 2011. Tanya also played on Team BC for the Western Canadian and Canada Summer Games in 2003 and 2005, helping the team earn gold medals at both tournaments. As a catcher, Tanya has played on the Junior Women’s National Team for the 2006 World Qualifiers in Puerto Rico and the 2007 World Junior Championship in Enschede, Netherlands. She also played 2 years at NCAA Div 1 Troy University before transferring to UBC when it started a softball program in the NAIA, highlighted by receiving A.I.I. All-Conference honours as a catcher and Academic All-Canadian honours both years as a student-athlete. Now besides from coaching at UBC Tanya is completing her Masters degree in Physical Therapy.
Both Tanya and Ron are not new to the Okanagan Softball Camp, both having been instructors in previous years, but this is the first time they will be together and ready to make the 2014 edition of the best pitching and catching experience yet!!!
